Women’s Opening Dinner Recap

Opening night always feels like the real start of the season—and tonight delivered.

We had just over 90 women in the room, and honestly, it’s one of my favourite things to witness at our club. The way people cross the room to hug someone they haven’t seen since last season. The catching up, the laughter, the “how was your winter?” conversations that somehow pick up right where they left off in October. When you look around a room like that, it’s pretty clear—we have something special going on here.

GM Brad Young opened the evening and shared how impressed he continues to be with the growing number of women at Saugeen and the camaraderie that comes with it. It’s not just about golf—it’s about community. And nights like this really put that on display.

I’m still thinking about the pea and asparagus salad with burrata—I could happily eat that on repeat all season. And the tiramisu… divine. Bravo to the food and beverage team!

Beyond the food and reconnecting, the evening was also a chance to hear what’s ahead this season—and there’s a lot to look forward to.

What We Heard

Tuesday Women’s League
Chair Rhonda Yaraskavitch reminded everyone that it’s not too late to join on Tuesdays, with the season kicking off next week (May 12). She also introduced new Vice Chair, Val Murano! To be added to the Tuesday 9 or 18 hole Women’s League, please contact Jack Middleton at proshop@saugeengolf.com

Women’s Member-Guest Tournament
Penny Eckensweiler revealed this year’s theme: Witches with Sticks.
You’ve got a couple of months to start planning your cart decor… and if last year’s Cinco de Golf is any indication, the bar is set pretty high. Mark your calendars for Thursday, July 16. Details to come!

Wednesday Night Women’s League
Dianne Wallace shared that league memberships are still open until next week—so there’s still time to get in on the savings! WNW starts Wednesday, May 13th.

Upcoming Social Event
Sue Buckton shared that while we won’t be hosting a fashion show this year, a casino night (June 18) is in the works. Exciting!

All in all, it felt like more than just a dinner. It felt like a bit of a homecoming.

The season is here, the short game is (slowly) coming back, and there’s a full calendar ahead of us. Let’s go!
