A look back at the June Women’s Fashion & Variety Show—and a look ahead at what comes next
Every seat was filled. Every table told a story. And everywhere you looked, there were smiles, sequins, and the unmistakable energy of women showing up—for each other, for fun, and for Saugeen.
The sold-out June Women’s Fashion & Variety Show was more than a night of entertainment. It was a celebration of the friendships, creativity, and community that define our growing women’s golf culture. Sue Buckton and her incredible team of volunteers, dancers, and entertainers delivered a show that brought us through the musical and fashion decades in honour of Saugeen’s 100th anniversary—and reminded us what makes this place special.
Each table was decorated by attendees, and the attention to detail was jaw-dropping. Mine was a full-on flower-power setup, bursting with colour and love. The time and creativity poured into the décor alone painted a vivid picture of what this event means to the women involved.
But what struck me most? The buzz. The women who come to this show know they’re in for a good time. The room was electric—filled with laughter, hugs, and excited chatter as friends reconnected and whispered guesses about what each group had been working on behind the scenes. There was choreography. There were costumes. There was a whole lot of joy.
Dinner was exceptional. Hats off to The Clubhouse for an impeccable Cobb Salad that, frankly, I’m still thinking about.
And then came the show.
From the opening number, the room was hooked. We laughed, we danced in our seats, and we tried to guess what song would mark the next decade. The performers were fearless—and the support was loud. Seeing our golf pros, staff, GM, and Board President jump in to dance and play along was not only hilarious, it was heartwarming. This wasn’t just a production. It was a reflection of what happens when people care—when they’re proud to be part of something, and want to help it grow.
Sue and her crew? They’re friends who love to golf together. But this event, this tradition, is also a testament to the friendships this game can spark and the community it can build. It’s fun. It’s silly. It’s deeply meaningful. And as a forty-something woman just getting the hang of the game, I found it inspiring.
So here’s the question: How do we carry this legacy forward?
Sue has more than earned the right to pass the torch. So who picks it up?
This is why growing the game matters—not just for the traditions we cherish, but for the next generation of women golfers. I may be part of that generation, but I’m not the last. Maybe the future won’t look like a fashion show. Maybe it’s sold-out Nine & Dines, themed scrambles, or something entirely new.
But it will start the same way it always has—with women showing up.
- Bringing a friend to league night.
- Inviting someone new to play.
- Helping them feel like they belong.
Because you might just make a new best friend.
And you might just find yourself dancing to ABBA with a hundred of your golf buddies next June.
