A Century at Saugeen

Established 1925 | Celebrating 100 Years in 2025

In 1925, a vision for great golf took root in Saugeen Shores. What began as a community course has grown into a cherished hub for golfers of all ages and abilities—built on tradition, shaped by decades of dedication, and strengthened by the people who call this club home.

What started as a local dream became a cornerstone of golf in Bruce County. Over the decades, the club evolved—expanding to 27 holes, weathering economic turns, and welcoming generation after generation of golfers. Through every era, one thing stayed the same: the spirit of camaraderie, competition, and community that makes SGC special.

As we celebrate 100 years, we honour the members, volunteers, staff, and families who built this club into what it is today. A place where stories are shared, milestones are toasted, and every round is a chance to make a memory.

Here’s to the next 100.

A Night to Remember

Reflections on the May 31st Member’s Centennial Gala

The first major event of our 100th anniversary season was, by all accounts, a tremendous success. Saturday’s Member Gala welcomed just over 100 members and guests for an evening that raised the bar at Saugeen Golf Club.

The banquet room was transformed—elegantly decorated with wall hangings, fine linens, and thirteen stunning centrepieces that set the tone for the night. The dinner was exceptional, the service was top-notch, and the entertainment? Let’s just say we learned that our golfers don’t just dance on the green.

A heartfelt thank you to the dedicated group who made it all happen. Special thanks to committee chair Anne Marie Raven, whose eye for detail brought the room to life. Supporting Anne Marie on the Gala Committee were Sid Gordon, Bonnie Armstrong, Cathy Taylor, Sally Clarence, Lynda Palinski, and George Gruetzner—your hard work did not go unnoticed.

I’d also like to thank my wife, Jane Pritchard Bowers, who has co-chaired all of the centennial committees with me this past year. Jane, I couldn’t have done it without you.

Musical entertainment was provided by two of our former teaching colleagues, Daryl Kuabara and Rod Gimpel—performing as Double Impact. From the cocktail hour to the final dance (nearly 11 p.m.—not bad for a crowd of golfers), they kept the atmosphere joyful and energetic.

Lastly, a sincere thank you to our Food and Beverage partners. Evan and his team provided an exceptional culinary experience—oyster bar included—that helped make the night unforgettable.

Thank you again to everyone who attended, and to Bob Kopf for capturing the evening in photos and Margaux Bucher who continues to share the great events and milestones of our club with our members. The bar has been set, and I encourage every member to find a way to take part in this centennial season. It’s going to be one for the books.
